Metaphor

A communication tool used in Coaching, amongst others.   A metaphor is showing possibilities of seeing one thing with the help of another, which often allows The client to change the perspective from which he perceives a certain situation that can be a challenge or sometimes even a Problem for him.  In many cases, this allows the Coachee to understand the essence of the situation in which he currently is through emphasising certain aspects of reality whilst omitting others.  Metaphors are natural and quite common in everyday language.  In coaching they are carefully chosen for particular clients and their specific situation.

Metaphors often omit the conscious part of our minds, but still are safe (as long as they are not used in a over invasive way), since a client takes from them what he currently needs to make change happen.
