Diagnosis in coaching
Actually the term “diagnosis” does not function in Coaching. Diagnosis is rather contradictory with the philosophy of the coaching attitude. If by diagnosis we mean a description, some qualification of our client’s world and giving it some meaning – then we definitely have no use for it. At most The client himself may perform some form of self-diagnosis. For the Coach what is most important is how The client perceives his own situation.
Many coaching approaches make the assumption of a uniqueness, even a kind of perfection of man. Of course, increasing the effectiveness of the client’s activities can be achieved, but he doesn’t need “fixing”, so he doesn’t need being diagnosed.
