A phrase from NLP (this expression was originally used by computer programmers) which basically means making a step up or a step down. It’s a type of changing of perspective which the Coach may ecourage the Coachee to do with the help of questions, showing the bigger picture – chunk up or more details of a particular situation – chunk down.
This tool is useful in many situations, for example when setting the Criteria of accomplishing a goal or of generalizing sources, as well as guiding The client through different Neurological levels. The coach may ask additional questions as to how does a particular Identity of The client manifest itself at different Behavioural levels.
Such a simple change of perspective is useful in situations when the client needs to modify the way of perceiving a certain situation or to make an analysis (which otherwise would not be possible because of the necessity to get into greater detail).
