Building relationships in Coaching is based exactly on the same principles as in other spheres of life (eg. working in a team, social interaction). A lot depends on the skills and flexibility of the Coach and type of personality and temperament of the Coachee . As both The client and coach can chose whom they want to work with, it is more likely that The client will work with somebody who will suit him on many levels (neurological).
The main purpose of building relationships is creating common grounds for cooperation based on understanding, Trust, openness and partnership.
Its worth reminding a few of the important principles of building relationships, although the subject is quite an extensive one. A coach builds his relations starting with proper clothing fitting the nature of an organisation, through smiling, up to mirroring the coachee’s Behaviour. The coach must bear in mind respecting the client and his value system.
